Hiline Steel

Hiline Steel comprises a traditional range of pre-insulated steel pipe systems that are perfect for district heating and cooling networks.

A rigid, bonded pre-insulated steel pipe system in accordance with EN253. Suitable for district heating, cooling and special applications, it will accept temperatures up to 140°C continuous. Available in metric and imperial sizes – from 20mm to 1,200mm NB, it is supplied in 6 and 12 metre lengths with options for difussion barriers and insulation thicknesses in Series 3, 2 and 1.

Hiline Steel is certified welded carbon steel pipe manufactured in accordance with EN 10217-1:EN 10255 Grade S195T Heavy gauge or Medium gauge (formerly BS1387) & EN 10217-1:API5L Grade B/X42 Schedule 20 or Schedule 40.

Efficient Insulation in Series 3, 2 or 1

A key component in the efficiency of the Hiline pipe systems is our choice of CFC-free polyurethane foam to provide excellent levels of insulation – in accordance with the demands of the EN 253 standard. Available in Series 1, 2 and 3 thicknesses. By increasing the thickness of the insulation, significant cost savings can be made for the system operation.

Available with Diffusion Barrier

Hiline Steel systems are available with a foil diffusion barrier layer between the casing and the PUR foam insulation. This improves the system's performance over its lifetime by preventing the gas in PUR foam insulation from slowly diffusing through the outer casing and being replaced by air.

Robust and Adaptable Joints

The Hiline Steel service pipe is joined by welding. The HDPE outer casing can be joined using the proven Hiline range of wrap-around heat-shrink or electro-fusion couplings to ensure the very tightest of joints to protect against the ingress of ground water.

Hiline Steel has a comprehensive range of pre-fabricated bends, tees, fittings and accessories that enable it to be adapted to meet all possible configurations.

Engineering and Design Support

Design and Stress Analysis

There are many factors that will affect the long-term integrity of a pre-insulated pipe system. Correctly identifying and dealing with the potential for thermal expansion of the pipe system is a critical element of the design process and we employ state-of-the-art sisKMR specialist stress analysis software. This package allows us to configure the pipe routes to keep the thermal expansion within safe limits and conform to the requirements of the EN 13941 standard for Design and installation of pre-insulated bonded pipe systems for district heating.

Stress Analysis Example

Something as simple as adding in an unplanned branch connection can seriously impair a system’s ability to cope with the huge forces exerted on the pipe from thermal expansion. To put it into context, a 200-metre length of DN250mm pre-insulated steel pipe, heated to an operating temperature of 120°C will expand by around 150mm – exerting a stress of some 171MPa – the equivalent of 52 tonnes.

Hiline GRE

A rigid, pre-insulated glass-reinforced epoxy (GRE) pipe system capable of operating at temperatures and pressures previously only achievable with steel systems, it offers outstanding thermal performance coupled with exceptional levels of reliability

A composite pipe manufactured from helical-wound glassfibre reinforced epoxy material that is designed for use in heating and cooling networks. Offering a operational service life of 50+ years when operating at 95°C and 10 bar, the service pipe will accommodate pressures of up to 16 bar and details of service life at other temperature and pressure combinations can be supplied on request.

Standards

The GRE service pipe is manufactured in line with procedure ISO 14692; 1-4 and ASTM D 2310 class 11FX1 and ASTM D 2996, indicating type, grade, class and long term pressure strength classification for the GRE pipe axial load resistant type of pipe being RTRP-11 FW1. Hiline GRE pre-insulated pipes and fittings for thermal utilities are manufactured within an ISO 9001 accredited environment, generally in accordance with the requirements of EN 253 and in compliance with EN 448, EN 488, EN 489 and EN 13941.

Hiline eFlex

A highly-efficient pre-insulated PE-Xa pipe system that’s perfect for district heating and cooling applications.

The cross-linked polyethylene (PE-Xa) service pipe offers exceptional performance at temperatures up to 95°C and pressures up to 6 bar, making it perfect for district heating. Available in single and twin service pipe configurations, an integral EVOH barrier prevents oxygen diffusion into the media.

High-Performance Insulation

A layer of CFC-free flexible polyurethane foam puts the insulation in a league of its own – with minimal heat loss – Lambda value of 0.0216 W/mK (at 50°C). Unlike inferior pipe systems with an air gap, Hiline e-Flex’s composite construction – with its service pipe and outer casing bonded together by the foam insulation – means that thermal expansion can be ignored. Series 2 increased thickness insulation is also available.

FibreFlex Pro

A highly-efficient reinforced pre-insulated pipe system that’s perfect for district heating applications at higher pressures than a standard PE-Xa pipe.

Hiline FibreFlex Pro is a pre-insulated, flexible pipe system with fibre-reinforced service pipe for use up to 115°C and 10 bar. Thanks to the high-temperature aramid fibre mesh, the FibreFlex Pro pipe system can be used up to a maximum operating temperature of 115 ° C and a pressure of up to 10 bar. The FibreFlex Pro pipe system thus combines the advantages of a flexible pipe system with the operating properties of traditional steel pipe systems and is therefore an innovative, cost-effective alternative.

Efficient Insulation

FibreFlex Pro pipes are insulated in one continuous manufacturing process using a CFC-free bonded polyurethane foam with an outstanding thermal conductivity value of l≤0.021 W/mK at 50°C.

As the insulation layer has a lower thermal conductivity than conventional pre- insulated steel pipes (l=0.07 W/mK), in diameters up to 80 mm, the FibreFlex Pro system's heat loss is lower than insulation series S3 pipes and in larger diameters, heat loss is lower than series S2 pipes (see graph).

When compared to conventional, bonded preinsulated PE-Xa pipes, the heat loss can be up to 17% lower for the FibreFlex system and even better when compared to non-bonded pipes.

Hiline FibreFlex

A highly-efficient reinforced pre-insulated pipe system that’s perfect for district heating applications at higher pressures than a standard PE-Xa pipe.

Hiline FibreFlex is a pre-insulated, flexible pipe system, with a service pipe made of fibre-reinforced, cross-linked polyethylene and PUR thermal insulation. Thanks to the aramid fibre mesh, the pipe wall thicknesses could also be reduced and, due to the resulting smaller outside diameter, the insulation could be improved. Compared to conventional flexible pipe systems, media can be transported at a pressure of 10 bar at a continuous operating temperature of + 80 °C.

Tough Outer Casing

Fast & Secure Joining

Hiline Clover pipes are joined with a proven, fusion welding technology and so can be supplied as spigot-ended pipes and fittings assemblies with the options of either butt-fusion or electrofusion welding.

Alternatively, pipes and fitting assemblies can be supplied with the unique factory fitted ClickWeld system which allows for pipes to be clicked and locked together and then fusion welded with integrated electrofusion technology. This reduces the number of site welds and therefore installation times and risk.

These polymer fusion welding technologies are more cost effective than conventional steel welding and will help address the significant skill shortage that challenges the industry.

Heat Loss

Hiline Clover utilises a water-blown PUR foam with a Lambda value of 0.021 W/mK and is manufactured with an insulation thickness aligned with Series 2 within EN253 standards. When compared with typical pre-insulated carbon steel Hiline Clover demonstrates an improved thermal efficiency and therefore reduces heat losses.

Comprehensive Range

Hiline Clover offers sizes from DN20 to DN250, with continuous operating temperatures up to 80°C and peaks up to 95°C. The system’s performance capabilities and trouble-free 50-year service life expectancy are validated by compliance with international material performance standards.
It is compatible with CPV’s other ranges of pre-insulated composite polymer pipe systems to provide both flexible pipes and large diameter pipes up to DN600.

Unique DUO

With both the flow and return pipes having a unique ‘stadium’ shaped single casing pipe, it offers maximum thermal efficiency whilst minimising piping insulation materials. This allows trench widths to be reduced and thereby lowering the cost of installation.
